And the romantic backdrop of the Eiffel Tower, the Seine River, and flowering gardens make it the perfect place to plan a wedding. So if you are planning a destination wedding, here’s why Paris should be at the top of your list.
The wedding season in Paris runs from April to October. July and August are very popular months with Italians, French and Americans. Be aware that August is holiday month in France so it can be difficult to find venues and vendors available. If you are looking for cheaper rates and availability, consider getting married in September or October when the weather is still nice and the rates are up to 15-20% cheaper on average.
Paris Weather
The weather in Paris is generally mild from March through September, but July and August can be hot (and crowded). So if you want to avoid the crowds (and heat) we recommend scheduling your wedding between late spring and early summer or late summer through early fall.
Summer months (June-August) can be hot and humid, but many people still plan a wedding during these summer months. If you are planning a wedding in Paris during this time, you should consider having your ceremony earlier in the day when it is cooler.
With average summer temperatures of around 21°C (70°F), Paris is an ideal wedding destination if you want to combine your wedding with your honeymoon. There is hardly any rain during this time.
If you prefer a winter wedding, December is a great time to visit Paris – particularly around New Year’s Eve!
Winter weddings in Paris can also be lovely because of the holiday decorations and lights. Winter weddings can be less expensive than summer weddings because there are fewer visitors and less demand for space from tourists. That said, winter is not a great time to take outdoor photos because of the cold temperatures and lack of sunlight.
Think about what you want and when you want it.
If you’re going to have a summer wedding, book your venue at least two years in advance. If you’d prefer an autumn wedding, choose a date between September and November – the weather is usually at its best during these months.
The type of wedding ceremony will also depend on your preference – religious or civil ceremonies are both options in Paris. For a civil ceremony, contact your local town hall to find out what documents you will need to bring with you. Religious ceremonies can be performed by a Catholic priest or Protestant minister at certain churches in Paris. Foreigners who wish to get married in one of these churches must register at their embassy or consulate in France before contacting the church authorities.
When should I start the organisation?
We advise you to plan your wedding about 6 months in advance. If you have more time, even better! This will give you time to check with vendors, find the perfect venue, etc. You should aim at booking no later than 6 months before your wedding day. Remember: some locations are booked up to 2 years in advance! Planning a wedding can be stressful, so relax and enjoy this special moment!
