This is some important information on the modalities of religious marriages in France !

In France, only marriages celebrated by civil authorities have legal value; a wedding church therefore has spiritual significance, but no legal status. To be able to benefit from a religious marriage, you must provide us with a copy of your legal marriage certificate.

To make things easier, we advise you to get married at a legal ceremony in your home country, then send us a copy of the marriage certificate to prepare the one in the church in France. You must also provide the baptismal certificate.

Catholic and Protestant weddings in France must take place in a church, for example an outdoor ceremony or a ceremony in a castle is not possible. However, many French castles have small chapels in their possession, which can be used for weddings with the agreement of the local clergy.
